Many simply had to learn to play something with their right hand (or, essentially, backwards). Now large manufactures are making instruments such as drums, keyboards and trumpets for lefties. Some companies now make tools for left-handed people. This is a great idea, since items such as chainsaws can be extremely dangerous when held incorrectly. They have been known to kick back if being used by an individual who’s dominant hand does not coincide with the design. Hammers, wrenches and saws are now made for the left hand and have made the industry of craftsman and construction a safer place.

As you can see, there is no longer a general misunderstanding that left-handed people can easily and safely use all products designed for righties; moreover, designers have learned that lefties want to have the same benefits from using popular products.
